My late mother and I used to watch the Kennedy Center Honors together. It was always an amazing display of talent, culture, and class. I was blessed to learn about so many artists and performers with whom I wasn’t familiar. It was such a sophisticated event that celebrated the diversity of our country.
Your mission states that your goals are to “promote and maintain the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as the National Center for the Performing Arts; strive to ensure that the education and outreach programs and policies of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts meet the highest level of excellence and reflect the cultural diversity of the United States.”
Your newly selected chairman has displayed the exact opposite of your goals. It is a disgrace to the Center and those it has honored and supported. It’s such a shame that your legacy is being tarnished as you embark on this new chapter.
How can you reflect the diversity of the country with a leader who disparages diversity programs? His actions do not favor those who do not look like him.
I’m disappointed, as I’m sure my mother would be too, that you would be associated with such a racist and prejudiced individual.
